چکیده

background: the blocking of nitric oxide synthase (nos) activity may reason vasoconstriction with formation of reactive oxygen species. propolis has biological and pharmacological properties, such as antioxidant. the aim of this study was to examine the antioxidant effects of propolis which natural product on biochemical parameters in brain and lung tissues of acute nitric oxide synthase inhibited rats by nω-nitro-l-arginine methyl ester (l-name). methods: rats have been received l-name (40 mg/kg, intraperitoneally), nos inhibitor for 15 days to produce hypertension and propolis (200mg/kg, by gavage) the lastest 5 of 15 days. results: there  were  the  increase  ( p <0.001)  in  the  malondialdehyde  levels  in  the  l-name treatment groups when compared to control rats, but the decrease ( p <0.001) in the catalase activities in both brain and lung tissues. there were statistically changes ( p <0.001) in these parameters of l-name+propolis treated rats as compared with l-name-treated group. conclusion: the application of l-name to the wistar rats resulted in well developed oxidative stress. also, propolis may influence endothelial no production. identification of such compounds and characterisation of their cellular actions may increase our knowledge of the regulation of endothelial no production and could provide valuable clues for the prevention or treatment of hypertensive diseases and oxidative stress.

Endothelial nitric oxide synthase overexpression attenuates myocardial reperfusion injury.

Previous studies indicate that deficiency of endothelial nitric oxide (NO) synthase (eNOS)-derived NO exacerbates myocardial reperfusion injury. We hypothesized that overexpression of eNOS would reduce the extent of myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (MI/R) injury. We investigated two distinct strains of transgenic (TG) mice overexpressing the eNOS gene (eNOS TG). Bovine eNOS was overexpressed in ...

ONO-1714, a nitric oxide synthase inhibitor, attenuates endotoxin-induced acute lung injury in rabbits.

UNLABELLED Overproduction of nitric oxide by inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expressed in the lung is thought to play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of endotoxin-induced acute lung injury (ALI). In this two-part study, we determined whether ONO-1714, a new selective iNOS inhibitor, attenuates endotoxin-induced ALI in rabbits. For Part I of the study, a control group received IV salin...

Comparison of inducible nitric oxide synthase activity in pancreatic islets of young and aged rats

Objective(s):Some pathologic situations such as diabetes and metabolic syndrome are associated with alternation in nitric oxide level. Incidence of these condition increases with aging. On the other hand, insulin secretion is modulated by nitric oxide, and nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity is also altered in diabetes. In this study, modification in the enzyme activity associated with aging a...

Angiopoietin-1 Gene Therapy Attenuates Hypertension and Target Organ Damage in Nitric Oxide Synthase Inhibited Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES In our previous study, we found that the gene transfer of a potent derivative of cartilage oligomeric matrix protein Angiopoietin-1 (COMP-Ang-1) substantially prevented hypertension, microvascular rarefaction, and target organ damage in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs). The purpose of the present study was to examine the role of nitric oxide (NO) in the therapeut...

Inducible nitric oxide synthase is an endogenous neuroprotectant after traumatic brain injury in rats and mice.

Nitric oxide (NO) derived from the inducible isoform of NO synthase (iNOS) is an inflammatory product implicated both in secondary damage and in recovery from brain injury. To address the role of iNOS in experimental traumatic brain injury (TBI), we used 2 paradigms in 2 species. In a model of controlled cortical impact (CCI) with secondary hypoxemia, rats were treated with vehicle or with 1 of...

Nitric oxide synthase 3 contributes to ventilator-induced lung injury.

Nitric oxide synthase (NOS) depletion or inhibition reduces ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI), but the responsible mechanisms remain incompletely defined. The aim of this study was to elucidate the role of endothelial NOS, NOS3, in the pathogenesis of VILI in an in vivo mouse model. Wild-type and NOS3-deficient mice were ventilated with high-tidal volume (HV(T); 40 ml/kg) for 4 h, with and ...
